JOB DESCRIPTION

Gilead Sciences is currently seeking a Vice President, Controller based in our corporate headquarters in Foster City, CA. Relocation assistance is available.

Specific Responsibilities and skills for this Position
This position will be the chief accounting resource for the company; protect company financial assets and interests by establishing, maintaining, and enforcing all accounting policies and procedures worldwide.

Position Description
- Responsible for all accounting transactions within Gilead, including general accounting, cost accounting, credit/collections, payroll, AP, worldwide accounting consolidations, SEC reporting, and technical accounting research.
- Set strategic direction for Gilead’s accounting transaction processing functions; executive sponsor for key strategic decisions such as global deployment of shared services centers and ERP system.
- Key participant in global deployment of Gilead’s ERP system.
- Key interface with external auditors (Ernst & Young) in coordinating quarterly and year-end audits and resolving all issues.
- Keep Board Audit Committee apprised of critical accounting policies and developments by attending and presenting at the quarterly Board Audit Committee meeting.
- Provide management and leadership to the accounting function, with 3 senior level direct reports and a team of approximately 50 professionals spread across the US and Ireland.
- Maintain proper accounting structure; primary owner of the worldwide chart of accounts.
- Partner with Internal audit department to maintain robust internal controls and proper documentation and testing in order to facilitate successful 404 certifications by external auditors.
- Establish and maintain financial processes in all areas to facilitate effective use of resources and help enable the company's continued growth.  Drive system improvements to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Skills and requirements
- 12 plus years of progressive experience
- CPA required; Big 4 audit firm experience is highly desired
- Track record of building and leading a successful accounting function in a medium-to-large, multi-national corporate setting
- Experience in driving and implementing change
- Detail oriented; strong business analytical skills
- Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills are required
- Positive attitude and a strong work ethic
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to influence personnel across functions and at all levels, including the executive team
- Ability to work in cross-functional team environment
- A person of the highest personal integrity
- MBA desirable
- Biotech/Pharmaceutical experience a plus
