The current economic climate is making raising money in the equity markets a risky proposition to on which to bet your company's financial future. There is an election still six months away and with the summer doldrums almost here, making for even more uncertainty.

Kathy Conte is Managing Director of Life Sciences, Hercules Technology Growth Capital, a finance company providing venture debt and equity to venture capital and private equity backed technology and life science companies. They offer growth capital to companies at all stages of development and specialize in venture debt in the forms of senior and subordinated working capital loans, senior revolving loans and bridge loans, venture leasing and select direct equity capital. Kathy's resumé includes a career in commercial lending and private placements

Jim Scopa is Managing Director on the BioVentures Team of MPM Capital. MPM is the world's largest dedicated investor in life sciences. In addition to its venture capital funds, MPM Capital invests in the public markets through its hedge fund. MPM focuses primarily on biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals as well as medical devices. Jim also brings an extensive background in healthcare investment banking from Thomas Weisel Partners and Deutsche Banc Alex Brown.

Dan Spiegelman is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of CV Therapeutics, where he has creatively led the financing effort for a decade. He was previously the treasurer of Genentech. Dan will speak on various financing vehicles, including his most recent direct experience raising money through equity lines and a $185 Million royalty deal with TPG-Axon Capital. |
